Thank you everyone for a wonderful Anniversary Sale!
We had one of our best birthdays ever, and we were so happy to share the good times (and good prices) with you.
This week, we're happy to share an extra treat, especially nice for anyone who purchased our Introduction to Jewelry Making for Vinyl Play Dolls Craft eBook before or during the sale.
Here's the great thing about having the techniques and tools we feature in our Introduction to Jewelry Making ebook at your fingertips: when you see a style you like, you can recreate it yourself!
Browsing jewelry inspirations on Pinterest recently, patternmaker "Pearl" came upon a pretty summer look a turquoise bead necklace with bead pendants arrayed in a sunburst pattern. So she whipped out her jewelry making tools and a tray of 10/0 seed beads, and set to work creating a doll-scale adaptation of that look...
Doesn't that make a sweet 18 inch doll choker?
This necklace is the perfect accessory for our American Girl® Girl of the Year® Blaire Wilson™ stand-in Truly Me #61, with her copper hair and peachy complexion and it neatly fills the v-neck opening of the cotton calico top we made for our doll using Pattern 1031: Classic Wrap Dress and Peplum Top for 18 Inch Dolls.
Follow along, and we'll show you the supplies you'll need to make this necklace, and direct you to the relevant lessons in our Jewelry Making eBook.
Don't own the eBook yet? You can still get it in our Etsy shop:

To start with, you're going to need a handful of 10/0 or 11/0 ROUND GLASS SEED BEADS. Any color bead is good, though turquoise is always a great choice as it's flattering on so many skin tones.
Along with the seed beads, you'll need SEVEN (7) HEADPINS. We chose antique bronze colored pins to go with the turquoise beads, but again, the color choice is up to you. Just make sure that your headpins are thin enough to pass easily through the narrow bead opening.
If you're following along in the eBook, we discuss both headpins and beads in the BASIC JEWELRY MAKING TOOLS chapter, beginning on page 8.
Next, you have to turn those headpins into seven little pendants with the following lengths, as shown above: two 1-bead pendants, two 4-bead pendants, two 7-bead pendants and one 10-bead pendant.
These pendants are easy to make using the twist-of-the-wrist technique that we show in the MAKE YOUR OWN PENDANTS AND PENDANT EARRINGS directions that begin on page 14 of our eBook, using the ROUND NOSE PLIERS and WIRE CUTTER pliers that we discuss in the BASIC JEWELRY MAKING TOOLS chapter.
Once you've completed the pendants, you'll need the following additional supplies to string and complete the necklace: more SEED BEADS, BEADING CORD, CRIMP BEADS and your choice of CLASP all materials we discuss in the eBook, of course!
For our necklace, we used a basic LOBSTER CLASP paired with a matching JUMP RING, as shown below.
String the beads and pendants on your cord, starting with 30-31 of the beads, then the pendants in order as shown above, with two beads between each pendant, then finish with another 30-31 beads.
Attach the clasps using the crimp beads and the directions in our ADD CLASPS TO MAKE SINGLE STRAND DOLL NECKLACES chapter, starting on page 24 and you're done!
