Let's play Show Us Your Christmas Ornaments...!
It's the most wonderful time of the year when tiny, precious things can be found hanging in all the stores.
Raise your hand if you walk s-l-o-w-l-y past the Christmas ornament displays this month, scanning for doll-scale props and accessories hidden among the glass balls and glitter stars.
This amazing, mold-blown glass Rocket Ornament by Ashland, which we found today at Michael's, had Pearl stopping and grabbing for her wallet and of course, her wad of craft store coupons.
We don't usually look for doll props among the mold-blown glass ornaments, as they tend to be un-realistically rounded and way too fragile. But this sturdy little rocket was perfect and what great timing for the space theme, as we all get ready for American Girl® Girl of the Year® 2018 Luciana Vega, and her visit to NASA Space Camp.
Every year, the ornament aisles at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft feature an array of fuzzy little animals. Some like the dogs, cats and bunnies we have found in previous holiday seasons make nicely-scaled doll pets.
But this year, Pearl couldn't resist these two little doll toy-size ornaments: a fuzzy little pony and sturdy gray elephant.
As a child, Pearl collected toy horses obsessively and the beautiful Steiff elephant in the picture below was one of her most treasured Christmas gifts.
With the addition of a scrap of red felt and a glued-on metallic "knopf-im-ohr" (button-in-ear), we think that the little Baby Elephant Ornament from Jo-Ann makes a fair approximation of the vintage original.
How cute is that?
Chrissa loves her new "Steiff" toy!
The last new ornament we picked up this year is really more of a "stocking stuffer" than an ornament, but we had to include it here because OMG it's just so perfect!
We can't vouch for how well this actually works as a Karaoke machine, because American Girl® Melody the aspiring vocalist grabbed it right out of the box and hasn't let go yet.
Seriously, it's perfect. It even stays in her hand without any rubber bands or tape or anything. At $10 it's a little bit of a splurge for a doll prop, but we found ours in the stocking stuffer bins near the cash register at Jo-Ann and of course, we had a coupon!
What doll-scale ornaments have you found this year?
We'd love to see 'em, and we've started a thread on our Facebook page for people to share their finds. Click on the link below to visit our Facebook page and join the fun.
