Today, we're going to share some of our most adventurous and unique pattern images as shopping inspiration. Enjoy!
Our mini-me Molly's Big '80s look was made using three timeless Lee & Pearl patterns — our Pattern 1008: Classic Ball Cap and Big Fat Trucker Hat, our Pattern 1001: Unisex T-Shirts and our Pattern 101: Gym Shorts for 18 Inch Dolls.
We featured this look in a previous newsletter, where you can also find a FREE PDF printable download that includes the MTV-iconic T-shirt logo in multiple doll sizes.
We've had fun dressing our dolls in '80s fashions before. Here are a two outfits we made for the release of our Pattern 1041: Slim Skirts, Denim and Pencil Skirts for 18 Inch Dolls — re-imagining our Ivy and Julie Albright dolls as a pair of teenage music lovers.
For both these outfits, we paired the asymmetric hem pencil skirt from Slim Skirts with the Pattern 1051: Ballet Basics unitard, and added a choice selection of accessories. Our Ivy clearly loves those '80s New Wave and Second British Invasion bands, while Julie wears her Punk studs and safety pins with style.
With wardrobe-essential silhouettes like these, fabric and accessory choices can make such a wonderful difference!
Speaking of accessories, we used the jewelry-making lessons from our Introduction to Jewelry Making for Vinyl Play Dolls Craft eBook to open a few jump rings and make a doll-scale sheep harness for the alpaca fleece sheep we found at the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo a few months ago.

Our 4H competitor is ready for the show ring wearing Pattern 1004: "Boy Style" Cargo Shorts with her Pattern 1001: Unisex T-Shirts and Pattern 1008: Classic Ball Cap for 18 Inch Dolls.
Along with being our very first pattern, that unisex t-shirt pattern is also one of our most versatile designs. Here it is again on one of our 16 inch A Girl for All Time® dolls, paired with the multi-sized Pattern 101: Gym Shorts for Dolls.
That perfectly scaled basketball is a stress ball from the dollar store, of course!
We love these expressive, jointed dolls so much, and are having so much fun redesigning our classic patterns for their new proportions.
Here's A Girl for All Time Matilda looking perfectly tragic as ballet heroine Giselle, wearing our Pattern 1072: Corps de Ballet Romantic tutu and seamed bodice!
These girls can emote with every millimeter of their graceful plastic bodies!
We're also having a blast re-designing patterns for the charming 14 1/2 inch WellieWishers®, who look adorable in every style we've tried on them.
Here are a pair of tiny Wellie dancers, performing a traditional Chinese Lion Dance in one of our recent newsletters, wearing black stretch Pattern 1051: Ballet Basics unitards and black faux-suede Pattern 1075: Ballet Slippers.
Here's our VERY FIRST American Girl doll — black-haired, green-eyed Truly Me #41 — wearing one of our first sports performance patterns, the "Long Program" outfit from our Pattern 1055: Skating Dresses for 18 Inch Dolls.
We created our very first Tweak-the-Pattern FREE downloadable pattern-enhancement to go with this skating dress pattern — the Ice Princess / Bridal / Red Carpet Gown Tweak, adding long skirt pieces to the skating dress bodice for a range of glamorous looks.
Who could forget this "frozen" regal look?!
Now let's talk about vintage and historic doll styles from Lee & Pearl!
When our favorite movie of 2016, Hidden Figures, was nominated for an Oscar, we were thrilled to be able to dress our American Girl Melody as an early '60s homage to the actresses and real-life women in that film — using our Pattern 1964: Darling Doris 1960s Ladies' Suit for 18 Inch Dolls, a pair of American Girl glasses and a dollar store mini award.
Then we gave Melody a new '60s Motown gown using upcycled tropical fabric and the sleeveless Tweak the Pattern version of our fabulous Pattern 1035: Olá Brasil! Samba Top, Bahia Dress and Baiana Headwrap for Dolls.
Heading further back in time, here's our Truly Me #41 looking drop dead gorgeous as a '40s film noir heroine, in her Pattern 1943: Molly Waves Goodbye silvery tweed suit and feather-trimmed, black velvet Pattern 2021: Glengarry Hat.
Moving further back through the centuries, here are a pair of carefree 18 inch "pyrates" from the 1720s, wearing historically-accurate shirts, breeches and wide-legged sailor's pants made using our Pattern 3052: Pirates, Patriots and Princes 18th Century Men's Basics for 18 Inch Dolls.
Ahoy, mateys!
We LOVE this pattern, and used it to create one of our most spectacular Halloween newsletter looks — our custom boy's Dread Pirate Roberts cosplay costume.
Check out this Halloween newsletter for all the details of this fabulous outfit — from the shirt and breeches to the sword and glossy black mask!
In the same Halloween newsletter, we featured this stunning "Scottish Princess" adaptation of the kirtle (gown) from our Pattern 3001: A Late Medieval Lady's Wardrobe, circa 1330–1450.
We made this gown — one of the most beautiful pieces we've ever made — out of gorgeous, buttery blue China silk, with the brocade band cut from an inexpensive "pashmina" scarf.
And here's some BIG NEWS from the workroom. If you like silks and you like historically accurate medieval fashions, STAY TUNED. "Pearl" has big plans for this pattern, this era, and these fabrics.
If you don't already own Pattern 3001, this is one you definitely want to pick up during today's SALE. You are going to want it later!
