We're thrilled to share some of those images with you now...
Longtime Lee & Pearl tester and friend Melangell made this fedora hat for her American Girl® boy doll using fabric from a pair of upcycled cotton twill Dockers®. The Greek key ribbon and coordinating sleeveless t-shirt give the ensemble a wonderfully summer-at-the-seaside look, don't they?
Amy D. made her American Girl doll hat using a lightweight denim. She embellished the hat with a bias-cut cotton gingham band, which is one of our favorite casual hat band styles.
We love this kind of light-but-crisp (and easy to press) fabric for these hats, and the up-and-down "snap" of the brim turn out perfectly in this material.
Since that snap is built into the pattern, it works in slightly thicker fabrics as well — like the wool that Amy used for this 14 ½" doll fedora.
How CUTE is that?
Karen Loke of SewLikeBetty on Etsy made this nifty twill fedora for her 18" American Girl boy doll.
She got a great snap on that brim, too! And we love the fedora with her doll's Hawaiian pineapple shirt. Doesn't he look ready for a West Coast swing dance session? This doll is MONEY.
The twill fabric worked out so well that Karen also used it to make a fedora for her Ruby Red Fashion Friends boy doll.
Karen tells us that the 14 ½" version of our pattern fits these adorable 14-15" dolls quite well, but if you have a range of different dolls in your collection you might still be able to make them hats with our Pattern 2023: The Fedora Hat for Dolls.
We designed the pattern for three different doll sizes — 18", 16" and 14 ½" — and then included directions for easily scaling the patterns up or down small amounts for dolls with slightly larger or smaller heads as well!
Guylaine Gagnon made these two fedora hats in the the 14 ½" size for her Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls.
She used a lightweight cotton canvas for these hats — the same kind of material that we used for our cover model's hat. The coordinating red and white, flexible twill tape bands are the perfect finishing touch!
You've probably seen Guylaine's lovely work before as she's active in several Facebook doll groups. If you're interested in arranging a custom order from her for the holidays, send her a DM on Facebook!
Willie of Feathersnstitch used a soft faux suede for her fedora hat. She tells us that the material was a little tough to work with — though a light, crisp interfacing helped a lot — but the result is a hat that really does look like molded felt.
She got a nice snap in this heavier material, too. Great work, Willie!
Sewbig made this unique hat using a waffle-weave fabric. Without the wide band common on many fedoras, the crown looks so much taller — almost cowboy hat height!
Our designer "Pearl" has wanted to make a White Hat / Black Hat cowboy hat pattern for a long time. This image is giving her all kinds of interesting ideas...!
Gwen Weathington made the last fedora we're featuring today, and it's delightful! The tiny polka dots, the floral band, the impressive "snap," the rakish tilt — everything here works perfectly.
With her high-necked Edwardian-style blouse, Gwen's Kit doll looks ready for Steampunk-tinged adventure in this hat.
Gwen tells us, "I just had to try the Fedora pattern. I've never made hats and it looked challenging, but it went together easily and perfectly. Many thanks to Lee & Pearl for my "second childhood" fun."
Thank YOU Gwen, for this delightful version of our pattern.
