Unlike the stretchy leotards worn for class and rehearsal, real ballet performance bodices are made of sturdy woven fabrics, patterned for a close fit and built using techniques borrowed from the 18th and 19th century corseted dresses from which they derived.

Though it looks like a layered outfit with a loose, gathered blouse cinched in by an underbust corset, our Peasant Style Ballet Bodice is actually a trompe l'oeil single piece, cleverly constructed so that every gather and ruffle is stitched in place to a sturdy lining and neatly closed with a simple back opening.

The lined bodice features a gathered blouse overlay, wide scooped neckline, dainty puff sleeves with elastic-ruffled edges, faux underbust corset seamed to the blouse with swooping curved lines and stitched-in ribbon laces, and waist-enhancing front point, replicating the fitted bodices worn by ballerinas in actual performances.
